Performance Measurement Buzz

There is certainly a lot of buzz about performance measurement these days. Here are some of the things we've been following:

  • The White House Office of Management and Budget is planning to adjust the way government agencies evaluate their services.
  • As our CEO Andrew Wolk wrote in a recent post on his blog, the i3 Fund in the Department of Education is going to be matching funding to organizations to level of measurement rigor, among other things.
  • FSG Social Impact Advisors just put out a great paper, “Breakthroughs in Shared Measurement and Social Impact,” that discusses the impact organizations can have when they collaborate with others working on the same or similar issues. They argue that when organizations work together to develop common standards for measurement and reporting, impact can be more readily understood – and they’ve created a wiki so that organizations can continue to learn from one another.
  • Mission Measurement has lots to say about the role of measurement for nonprofit organizations and the role of foundations in supporting those efforts.
  • Debra Natenshon of the Center for What Works recently offered a great analysis of why timing is so important in performance measurement.
