A Historic Day at the White House

President Obama Sets Forth a Community Solutions Agenda

At a special event at the White House on June 30, President Obama addressed about 250 leaders of organizations focused on advancing innovation to solve social problems. The President highlighted "innovative non-profits programs that are making a difference in communities across the country" [sic].

"Programs such as Harlem Children's Zone, Teach for America, HopeLab, Genesys Works, and Bonnie CLAC have developed models that are demonstrating results. These programs and others like them have the potential to make progress in education, training, health care, and other areas in more communities across the country," the President said.

The President called on "foundations, philanthropists, and others in the private sector to partner with the government to find and invest in these innovative, high-impact solutions."

"As acknowledged by President Obama, Bonnie CLAC, which was featured at the event, is a prime example of how innovative non-profits can tackle critical social issues while at the same time provide a model of innovation for others to learn from. Root Cause worked with Bonnie CLAC to develop their business plan aimed at accelerating their growth and building a foundation for sustainability. I was extremely gratified to hear the President acknowledge the great work of Bonnie CLAC and its founder, Robert Chambers."
