Need
A college education is the key to opportunity and economic success in America today. However, rising costs and complexity in the financial aid system often keep these opportunities beyond the reach of even the most academically qualified young people.
- College graduates earn 73% more than high school graduates.Over a lifetime, the earnings gap exceeds $1 million
- College cost and a lack of understanding about the financial aid process are the top two reasons why academically qualified high school graduates do not enroll in college.
- Since 1982, median family income in the United States hasincreased 147%, while the cost of college has increased 439%.
- After grants and scholarships, the average Boston high school graduate will have to self-finance, through loans and direct payment, $11,700 per year upon entering college.
